It was simply a child project that lasted a few months. It's helped me learn a lot, and help me figure out what I really want to do. I'm going to make something much bigger and much better than Underground Punk. I want to create a full blown website, not just a blogspot. Something that is more than just interviews. Something with show reviews, interviews, album reviews, and content uploaded almost everyday. A true music empire, full of knowledge about the punk, pop, hardcore scene, and any sub genre in between. I really appreciate the few thousand of you unique visitors I've gotten in these short months. I'm also deciding to leave this page up, that way the bands can still get the promotion they deserve. I want to learn more, and really improve my writing skills and my knowledge before I start something like this again. When I do though, I promise you it will be worth the wait. I'm sorry to everyone, and I thank you for your support.Ethan Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09789707517710110992noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8260857551143687550.post-1605625701723618832010-12-04T23:18:00.001-05:002010-12-04T23:27:08.110-05:00November's Unsigned Band of the Month: By Summer's End

A sense of refreshing taste. A sense of interesting exposition. A Sense Of Change. That's new EP title by indie/alternative band, By Summer's End. Let me tell you one thing, these guys deserve the spot of November's Unsigned Band of the Month. Why? Because their something unique. When Nathan Riddle, their lead guitarist contacted me, I had never heard of By Summer's End. Now that I have, I'm glad to say I'm a fan of the band.

Hailing from Concord, North Carolina, the band began originally began in 2007 to play the members 8th grade dance. (Side note: Good lord 8th grade feels like an eternity ago). By Summer's End decided to keep it going. Through a few member changes a long the way, were left with some of the best of the unsigned alternative industry. The current lineup is pretty recent. Some of the members just joined as of August 2010, but don't let that steer you away from taking a listen. The band put together one hell of an EP that would make you think they've been playing together for quite some time. Members Nathan Riddle (Lead Guitar/Vocals), Alyssa Nelson (Rhythm Guitar/Vocals), Matthew Ensley (Bass/Vocals), and TJ Hurley (Drums & Percussion) talked with me about their band so that you guys could find out more about them. Without further a due, here is the November Unsigned Band of the Month, By Summer's End!
We're also inspired by challenges. Our music definitely reflects that. We challenge ourselves to make what we are doing better each time, and we like to go against the grain. We want our inspirations to shine so bright that it inspires the listener.
Nathan had posted a blog about being something completely new and fresh, with new material shows, and the whole shebang by summer's end. TJ read the blog and liked the way that phrase sounded as a name, and it kind of represented what we were trying to do. Unfortunately, being the perfectionists (or procrastinators) we are, we're just now finishing up our transformation. We wanted to make sure what we had was something special, and we didn't want to put a due date on it.
But there is no mistaking the badass sound which is produced from post hardcore gods, Underoath in their new album O (Disambiguation). If you have enjoyed the past albums released by Underoath, then this is certainly another you will want to add to your collection.

When I first checked out the album, I noticed that the same sound I loved was on this album again. My favorite song from the whole album is probably "In Division", which happens to be the first song on the album. It's just so well put together. It really shows how well the whole band can synch together too. The drum beats flow perfectly between every guitar part, the vocals sound great, and the chorus is so damn catchy. My other favorites include "Driftwood", and "Who Will Guard The Guardian". "Driftwood" has an awesome intro, hands down. It combines so many peculiar sounds to combine a tranquil type feeling. It's a bit different from a lot of the things on the album, which makes it unique. It's more of a filler than an actual song though, none-the-less it's still pretty neat.

All in all, if you are a previous fan of Underoath, you need to check out the album. I'm sure a lot of you already have. If you haven't heard of Underoath, then you are either new to the hardcore scene, or you have been living under a rock for most of your life. If either of those hold true then make sure to check out the album on their PureVolume here . Oh, and get a shower too. Comments always welcome!
If you enjoy the music scene that involves bands like Taking Back Sunday, All Time Low, The Academy Is, and The Rocket Summer then Good Luck Jane is right up your alley. Blended with great lyrics, killer vocals, and those signature pop/punk riff collaborations, Good Luck Jane is a heavy hitter to the music scene. They haven't been around too long, but they have already released quite a bit of music, which is a good thing. I love the usage of keyboard throughout some of their songs, and the simple but effective use of the drums. I got a chance to talk with Danny Katz, the bassist from Good Luck Jane, and this is some of what the band is about. Enjoy!
What would happen if you took 5 different influences and tastes from the music scene, and then ironed them out with the brand of "pop/punk"? You'd get I'm Prettier Than You. This one of the most diverse groups I have heard in the music scene lately. Their awesome EP titled Turning Pages is a massive blend of what the music scene has become today. Influences from all over the place are blended together, which creates for an interesting, unique experience. From Iowa hails the 5-piece band, I'm Prettier Than You, and they are definitely impressing quite a few people. Some of their songs have hardcore influences, others have a more pop/punk people. Some have a more pop feel to them, and some have an upbeat (and sometimes almost classic) rock taste to them. In the end, there is something for everyone, or if you are like me, you enjoy everything. I talked with the lead singer, and guitarist Rayce Harman about I'm Prettier Than You about the band and what they are doing!
In practice is where most of it happens. We get our set list’s ready and that’s what we start practicing first. Then we add in all the changes we want and figure out what we plan on doing differently. Mainly, we just make sure our energy is up and we have all the tricks and treats ready to go by show day; since show day is usually all business and work to get equipment up. We try to have the passion and goal that music used to have back when bands were all trying to sound different. While at the same time still creating music with a style that is somewhat recognizable to the scene that’s around now. So it becomes a combination of feeding off of each other for part of writing and going home where I can lock myself away from anything else that would influence me so I can try to write something original.

What's that you say? You don't know who Carson is? You should. They kick a lot of ass. The pop/alternative band from Concord, North Carolina is blowing up in popularity. Right now they have only released a few songs, but they plan on recording in January. That's right, January. So make sure to watch out for them. The band takes influences from some of the other greats in the pop/alternative scene like Paramore, Flyleaf, Versaemerge, and others. Taisha's voice is absolutely stunning to boot. I'd even be willing to say she is better than some of the other signed bands that have female vocalists. Carson stands out from other pop bands though, in their sense of style. They have an in-your-face approach, but its backed with amazing riffs, solos, and etc that are not so usual in the pop scene. I was given the oppurtunity to talk with the guys (and gals) from Carson, and here's what went on.
Forget Tomorrow is unforgettable. The post-hardcore six piece band is from Wolcott, Connecticut. Fans of For The Fallen Dreams, We Came As Romans, Silverstein, and etc, embrace yourselves. The band has released an EP titled In Search of Salvation, a remarkable show-and-tell of their extreme talent. Forget Tomorrow has also put together a cover of Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love". I got a chance to talk with these guys about their music, and they took the extra mile and sent a video response! So here are the guys from Forget Tomorrow. Enjoy!
From Pennsylvania, the four piece band North of the City dominates. The pop/punk rock band recently produced their first EP titled Swear on the Stars. North of the City writes songs that blend great pop/rock with a more serious punk attitude. It's a wonder these guys have caught the eyes of a record deal yet. Yes, they are that entertaining. One thing that I love about this band, and it's just a matter of personal preference, but the bass lines are sick. Unlike a lot of music today where the bass is unheard, they make sure its exposed. Bass with some badass parts only furthers the awesome experience of Chris Visconti's voice and the overall great sound of North of the City. I got a chance to talk with Chris Visconti, and here's what was said.
You can also check out their PureVolume here and listen to their Swear On The Stars EP as well as their highly loved single "Make Me Sick". In all seriousness this band has got a good thing going for them. Pennsylvania is not very far from where I live so hopefully I'll have the privilege of seeing them come to Ohio soon! No, Captain Chunk! hails from Paris, France. I pre-ordered their new album Something For Nothing along with an awesome T-shirt from MerchNOW. I have to say that they really out did themselves with their debut album. I have been a fan since the Cum On EP, but this albums blows it away.

Immediately when listening to Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! it reminds you of bands like Set Your Goals and A Day To Remember. The pop/punk meets hardcore sound. Add a little twist of metal to the mix, and that describes Something For Nothing. The album features some awesome songs, each one better than the last. What I really like about Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! is their diversity. They have a few songs like "Captain Blood" and "Born for Adversity" that remind you of A Day To Remember or For The Fallen Dreams. Then on the other hand, they have songs like "Summer Heat" that remind you of bands like Hit The Lights.

All around the new album is awesome. I'd have to say my favorite songs would be "In Friends We Trust" and "We Fell Fast". They both just have an amazing blend of punk with hardcore influence. The intro to "In Friends We Trust" is killer too.

In reality, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! has to be experienced. If you are a fan of post-hardcore bands or pop/punk then definitely check them out. Oh, and by the way, if you are wondering where the band name came from, you either haven't seen "The Goonies" or you simply can't remember. Either way, this will explain everything. For those of you that want to check out the band, you can go to their PureVolume page here. Feel free to leave comments!
It's hands down one of my favorites. Some absolutely amazing artists appear on the Punk Goes Pop 3 CD. However, there were a few disappointments. Let's talk about the negative first shall we?

I was upset by the cover of "Blame It" by Of Mice & Men. I honestly can say, I don't care for the band much anymore after they kicked Austin Carlile. I dislike Jerry Roush being in the band. It's not that I don't think he's good, I just think he's better suited elsewhere. I'm about to make a bold statement so bear with me. Austin Carlile is the best screamer I have ever heard. There I said it. When I went to the OM&M show, his screams made me just about shit myself. That however, is another story. The other cover I don't care for is the one by Miss May I. The band originated very close to where I live now, so I seen them perform long before they were "famous". The band is nothing that it used to be. If you ask me, they got a bit cocky. They used to have a lot of heart for what they do, and now they seem like they don't care to me. I personally think this is because they think they have already "made it". The cover itself was simply OK. It just didn't impress me. Let's move on to the good before I piss off more people than I already have.

Breathe Carolina killed it. Woe, Is Me killed it. Artist Vs. Poet killed it. Mayday Parade, Asking Alexandria, This Century, The Word Alive, Family Force 5, The Ready Set, Cute Is What We Aim For, Sparks The Rescue, and We Came As Romans all killed it. I could make a novel long post of all the good things that Punk Goes Pop 3 brings to the table. My top three happen to be, The Ready Set, The Word Alive, and Artist Vs. Poet. Not in that order. Keep in mind though, that was very hard to narrow down. Another noteworthy one is Breathe Carolina.

The Ready Set managed to cover "Airplanes" by B.o.B amazingly. I was a bit skeptical at first before I heard the song, because Hayley Williams nails it so well. However, Jordan did it again, and created a hit song. I'd like to hear him pair up with Hayley Williams though. Now that would be awesome. The Word Alive covers "Heartless" by Kanye West. The beginning is my favorite, but the whole song is great, especially the dual vocals in the song, between clean singing and screaming. Artist Vs. Poet covered a hit song by Lady Gaga "Bad Romance". It's fantastic. They even manage to give it the "lady gaga" feel, while still retaining their pop/rock glory.

All-in-all Punk Goes Pop 3 is worth picking up. Especially if you are already a fan of the series. Feel free to comment and tell me what you favorites on the album are!
Vendetta Skies. Hot damn. Why did I choose these guys to be my Unsigned Band of the Month? Well, they are refreshing to say the least. They don't sound like everyone else. Plain and simple. The band was formed in Canada in January of 2010. A lot of the guys had been in bands previously, but Vendetta Skies began when the guys were forming a band for a battle of the bands competition. All of the band mates attended the same university, and under a previous name (From Time Immemorial) they played their first show together in the competition. They achieved 2nd place (just 2 points from 1st place). When it was all said and done, they decided to keep the project going. After discussing their band with various Indie labels, they decided to change their name to Vendetta Skies. In the 9 short months the band has been together they have produced an awesome album called Lack of Color, which is available online virtually everywhere. The band has also played quite a few shows, including doing a tour of Western Canada.

When I first heard these guys, I was very impressed to say the least. I really wanted to get a chance to talk to them, and help to give further exposure to Vendetta Skies. Luckily, the band was stoked about doing an interview with me, and I got a chance to talk to all the members of the band. Ryan and James Motyer, Zac Forrest, and Evann Neumann.
Eventually we want to do longer tours cross Canada and branch out to the US. Maybe Zac can get a girlfriend too (extremely doubtful).

Evann: I agree with Ryan, Zac is destined to be alone.

James: Playing shows and interacting with the crowd is awesome. Our friends and fans also help to bring new people to our shows, so every show is important to play the best we possibly can.
So there you have it. What have we learned? Zac is single (there ya go ladies), Evann has a hot cousin, and that Vendetta Skies is one of the best bands in Canada. However, competing with bands/artists like Nickelback, Avril Lavigne, Neil Young, and Sum 41 among others, they have a lot to live up to. I'm pretty confident in their abilities though. Make sure to check out their Myspace, Facebook, and etc (links are listed below). Pick up Lack of Color too. My favorite song of the album is probably "All My Life". The bass line in that song is the definition of badass. But you will just have to see for yourselves. Feel free to comment, and visit the links below!
The band is signed to Red Blue Records, and is similar to bands like Boys Will Be Boys, Red Car Wire, and Runner Runner. The band was first formed in 2008, and since then has produced a self-titled EP and their debut album Connected. They also can write some pretty badass acoustic songs. I'd watch out for these guys, because they sure know what they are doing when it comes to writing music. If you would like to check out the bands music, you can listen to almost all of their songs on iLike here or on PureVolume here . I'd also suggest you go to Itunes and pick up Connected. The album features some awesome songs, my personal favorite being "Keep This Dream Alive." A very catchy song. Anyway, make sure to check these guys out, and feel free to comment!
Calm, and peaceful, Kevin O'Leary is the solo artist of Lucky Street. He recently formed Lucky Street in the summer of 2010. The project is based out of Philadelphia where Kevin is a student at Villanova. The band is a pop, pop/punk, tranquil composition that takes influences from a lot of the pop influenced bands you hear today. Kevin O'Leary has yet to release an album, but his first one is coming out in the spring. That means, stay tuned and watch out for its release. Daringly, Kevin O'Leary has also composed a cover of the famous Mayday Parade's "Miserable at Best", and it's really good. The entire song is made up of fantastic piano, and vocals. I got a chance to talk with Kevin about his newly found project and how it was going.
My old band mates are all great guys and good friends of mine, but they did not take the music as seriously as I did. I know everyone says Blink, but that just shows Blinks' importance. No one has had more of an impact on this scene then Blink and it'd be an incredible honor to play with them. Blink 182 will always be one of my favorite bands and if I could open up for them, I could die happy.
The best thing about his project is how much it brings you back to what music was originally intended for. Emotions. His music has a way of making you feel happy, and very calm with yourself. I definitely like Lucky Street's style, it's a bit of fresh air. You can check out his page on PureVolume here and download "Sky diving" and his cover of "Miserable at Best" for free! Hands down. A Hero en Route sent me a copy of their new EP Wary As Bears for review. I was actually pretty stoked because I've been a fan of the band since Therefore, I Fled. I dig the band's really mellow sound, it works well for them. A Hero en Route is from Evansville, Indiana. A traditional five-piece band, that writes indie/alternative music.

When I first listened to the new EP, I immediately remembered what made me originally become a fan of the band. The lyrics. They are amazing, and so damn well-written its ridiculous. They have a lot of meaning, and seem to paint a thoughtful picture. Bobby Angle's voice is crazy awesome too, not to mention the sweet, smooth guitar solos throughout the entire EP. The whole band just flows together really well. I'd say the songs that stood out the most to me were "Mask" and "Light and Dark". "Light and Dark" has one of the coolest bass parts that I've ever heard, and "Mask" has some crazy, sick guitar and an amazing chorus. The entire EP is fantastic, as well as the others they have managed to produce. Each individual song holds something unique, which is impressive. A Hero en Route is not your average band that makes every song sound the same, and you can really tell this band is working their asses off to produce great music.

To truly experience A Hero en Route, you just have to check them out. If you are a fan of City and Colour, Kings of Leon, or any band with that mellow, smooth sound then give A Hero en Route a listen. I'd also check them out if you are a big fan of that classic rock sound; smooth bass, simple drums, and guitar solos. You can look them up on PureVolume here and listen to "Light and Dark" and "Curses". You can also stay up to date with the band on Twitter here . Mix that with a few influences from today's pop/punk bands and you end up with Friday All Summer. It's a familiar sound you have heard before but with their own twist. The band is from Rockford, Illinois with hopes of a record deal in the future. They are currently unsigned, but their self-produced EP Late Nights & Party Lights and their cover of Taylor Swift's "Love Story" are done really well. I got a chance to talk with these guys about their band Friday All Summer and what they do.
The band also mentioned something to me about doing a video for my website and answering some questions, but due to hardware issues it didn't get to happen. The Summer Soundtrack is and indie pop/rock band similar to The Maine and A Bird A Sparrow. It's really hard to believe these guys are unsigned. Yes, their songs are that catchy. The five-piece rock/pop group formed in 2007 and were signed to Doghouse Records in 2008. The Bigger Lights has released two EP's and their first full length album, self-titled, The Bigger Lights. All of this in roughly three years. There's a reason the band was only together less than a year and were signed by Doghouse Records. The reason being, they know how to produce an entire album's worth of songs, and make every one of them catchy and memorable.

The album starts off with one of the best songs on the album, "That Kind Of Girl". The song is simple and tells a story about that special kind of girl. It also is composed of one the most catchy choruses I've ever heard, not to mention badass guitar & bass riffs throughout the whole song. The other song I want to mention is "What About Us". I know I keep using the word catchy, but that is exactly how I would describe this band. Catchy. They just know how to write songs that like to stick in your head for the rest of the day.

If you are a fan of bands like All Time Low, Artist Vs. Poet, or The Summer Set then definitely check these guys out. I even went as far as sharing this album with a friend of mine, and he loved it. His favorite band is Pantera, so that really says something about these guys. You can check them out on PureVolume here and listen to their Fiction Fever EP and part of The Bigger Lights album. Make sure to show them some love on Facebook too. That really dark, eerie feeling you get in their songs? Well combine that with mind-splitting screams, amazing double-bass influenced drum beats, and heavy screams and you wind up with Creatures. Motionless In White is a hardcore/metal band from Pennsylvania signed with Fearless Records, and they sure know how to produce an album.

Let me be the first to say, it's relatively difficult to impress with me really hardcore music. I'm just not the biggest fan of it, but bands like We Came As Romans, Of Mice & Men, and Motionless In White are exceptions. It just takes a special something that the band produces for me to thoroughly enjoy hardcore music, but I can honestly say I enjoyed Creatures.

The first song that blew me away is one of their most popular from the new album and that's "We Only Come Out At Night". It starts out interestingly with a vampire like voice talking and then the great voices of Chris Cerulli and TJ Bell enter the scene. The other exceptionally noteworthy song is "Immaculate Misconception" which is a demonstration of how metal the band can really be. It combines deep screams, heavy riffs, and a dark keyboard sound.

Creatures just released yesterday, but now that you know about it, make sure to check it out! Fans of metal, hardcore, or a combination of the two should definitely add Motionless In White to their collection. You can check out part of their album on PureVolume here and follow them on twitter here . Feel free to post comments and make sure to pick up the album!Ethan Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09789707517710110992noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8260857551143687550.post-13348721412763752182010-10-11T12:41:00.000-04:002010-10-11T12:41:04.067-04:00Highlight The Night Interview featuring Mitchell Gray

Rising from Atlanta, Georgia the pop/punk band Highlight The Night kicks ass and takes names. Highlight The Night is a three piece band (they only have a temporary drummer at the moment) with heavy influences of pop/punk, similar to bands like All Time Low and The Maine. Currently Highlight The Night remains unsigned but the band sounds promising with hopes of a record deal. Recently they just produced their first EP titled Summer Fever. I got a chance to talk to their vocalist/guitarist Mitchell Gray so he could tell us more about his band.
However the band manages to prove that they can write acoustic too with their song "Summer Fever". The band has hardcore influences that give the band an edginess and a harder sound. Set Your Goals rose from San Francisco, CA in 2004 and continue to rally fans to this very day. This album especially shows the true talent that the guys from Set Your Goals possess. Hits like "This Will Be The Death Of Us" and "Gaia Bleeds(Make Way For Man)" back that statement up tremendously.

Set Your Goals was actually referred to me by a friend quite some time ago, and I remember driving down the road in his car and listening to this album. Right off the bat I noticed this bands raw, more hardcore sound that other pop/punk bands don't have. I liked it, it was actually a breath of fresh air. This is also a band that knows how to do dual vocals the way they are suppose to be done.

The first time I heard "Gaia Bleeds(Make Way For Man)" I'm pretty sure I forced my friend to play it about four more times. It's easily my favorite song off the album, but that definitely doesn't mean the other songs aren't well put together. This Will Be The Death Of Us is one of those albums I can actually put in and listen to all the way through without any complaints.

If you haven't checked out Set Your Goals yet, you're missing out. I'd reccomend this band to almost anyone that enjoys pop/punk or even anyone into hardcore. You can check out a few songs from their album on PureVolume , as well as songs from their first full length album Mutiny. Feel free to leave comments!Ethan Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09789707517710110992noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8260857551143687550.post-90176369954883431622010-10-05T16:24:00.000-04:002010-10-05T16:24:55.687-04:00Set It Off's NEW Music Video: "Hush Hush"

Wow, I was really surprised at how good the "Hush Hush" music video was. I wasn't expecting such a "background" to the music video itself. Meaning that the music video actually explained the story behind "Hush Hush". It was really well done.

The video starts out with the members of Set It Off pulling off to the side of the road in a van. They stop and unload body bags, get back in the van and leave. That's when the song begins. Now let me just say that the song "Hush Hush" itself is an amazing song by one hell of a band.

The band itself is composed of 4 members (they are minus a drummer right now) in a pop/punk, powerpop, crazy, party-hard atmosphere. I've got the privilege of seeing these guys perform live and they were amazing, and that was about a year ago so I would imagine they are even better now. They have released 2 EP's: Baby You Don't Tripajaharda and Calm Before The Storm. Both are crazy good, and with the release of their new single "Hush Hush", it blows my mind how the band has not been signed yet.

So check out the new video at keepithushhush.com or check out my embedded video below. The band can be found on Myspace here . Feel free to comment. <143
Addictive beats, perfect rhythms, catchy lyrics, and killer vocals make up Sound of the Stereo (not to mention the just shy of 80,000 plays he has on Myspace, and his many fans despite only being on myspace less than two months). The pop/electronica sound is something unique, and this kid has one hell of a voice! I got a chance to talk with Marshall Traver, so he could share some things about himself and his music.

I asked Marshall to tell me a little bit about himself and the music he plays, and this is what he told me...
I'm 16 years old and I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. I started Sound Of The Stereo In June of 2010 because I realized doing music by myself was less stressful then doing it with a band. I play music out of pure passion for it. I like to make music that helps you escape from reality. Ever since I was really little that's been my favorite kind of music. You know, the kind of music you can put on when you're sad and feel happy for that whole 3 and a half minutes? That's my first goal with music. I like to make fun, upbeat music, too. I want to be able to trigger an emotion in listener's with my music. Whether is be happy, sad, fun, mad, love, hate or even if you hate my music. It's all an emotion. I currently have my two released songs streaming on my Myspace and PureVolume page. I'm also the 9th most downloaded song on all of Purevolume :) I hope you can take the time to check me out! <3"
In regards to what he says, he is definitely meaningful with his music. Despite only having two songs on his Myspace and PureVolume pages, he has a ton of people already hooked. If you really listen to his lyrics too, you can tell they truly do come from pure passion, probably some of it even comes from real life experiences.
They are listed below, but if you aren't into following people on Twitter, or reading on Facebook or Myspace, at the very minimum I encourage you to check out his PureVolume page.
One man, one band, and a lot of talent! Nick Miley is the only member of The Spin room, an indie/emo acoustic band from New York. The band began in 2008, and with hard work and a lot of dedication, Nick has achieved incredible feats. He recorded demo songs in 2009, and since then has created quite a fan base. In the first year of The Spin Room being on Myspace, he had gotten well over 1 million plays. As to date he has now been on PureVolume's top 10 charts for over a week. That's right, Nick Miley is something to watch out for! I got the pleasure of talking with him and asking him about The Spin Room. Nick is a great guy that you can tell genuinely loves music, especially when you listen to his lyrics, and the passion that comes from behind them.
It started with an acoustic guitar. I needed an outlet, a way that I could share my thoughts on love. There was only one thing that stood in my way. I was just a singer and a lyricist and I was used to having a band to fall back on. But in no time I picked up the acoustic guitar and started making my own music again. Then it came time to see if people were going to really dig it. So I took my guitar and strap down to the bar section of town. A ton of college kids would walk around there and bar hop and I'd find the best spot where more people were chilling outside. I had a really great reaction and began doing it more regularly. People kept telling me I needed to hit the studio, they thought I had something. So I started dreaming again. I saved up the money to record my first demo by getting tips street performing. I recorded and got them up for download immediately."
Powerpop fans, embrace. Call The Cops! backs one hell of a punch in the music industry. Straight from Long Beach, this five piece band brings you some awesome tunes. Particularly "Love Like Novocaine" struck me as amazing. The best thing about this band is they try to keep the traditional powerpop sound, but do it in a way only Call the Cops! can. Great vocals, lyrics about girls, and synth heavy beats sums up this band. For me it is a rare occasion that I can actually listen to a band and enjoy their ENTIRE album, but Call The Cops! is definitely an exception. Every song on this EP is better than the last, totaling up to six awesome songs.
If you actually read the lyrics to the songs, they don't have very different messages from many other pop/punk or powerpop bands in this day and age. So if there is a sexist message, then I'm obviously missing it. Anyway, don't let people on the internet discourage you from checking out this band, they have amazing talent.

The songs "Love Like Novocaine" and "Motion Sickness" are especially great, because they have such catchy choruses. This band definitely makes you want to jam out, dance, and just party. The band, since the release of Motion Sickness in 2009, has a self-titled album out, and are continuing to expand their roots.
This album from song number one to song number eight delivers constant satisfaction. The album features two songs from their first EP release last year, On My Own, and another six brand new amazing songs. Upon listening I noticed that Amely really kept the same style as they did when they released On My Own, which is a good thing because I immediately liked the band when I first heard them. To be frank, I don't like it much when you become a fan of a good band and in the middle of their career they decide to do a 180, in a way that doesn't sit well with your ears.

I'd have to say the biggest eyebrow raiser for me was the song "All You Need", it really just had a perfect blend of guitar riffs, nice vocals, and one hell of a catchy chorus. Honestly, the first time I heard the song, I played it about five more times, and then had the song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Another favorite of mine is "I'd Rather Be Alone" which is actually a returning song from their first EP. That song has one hell of an amazing chorus, and really shows the diversity of Pete Pizarro's voice.

Check out Amely if you are a fan of pop/punk or pop/rock, or just feel like expanding your musical tastes. These guys are definitely a band to watch out for, especially since they have only been a band for about a year and a half. Since playing their first show in March, they have managed to go on several huge tours, get a record label with Fearless, and make a smashing hit on the music scene. They can be found on Myspace here . Feel free to leave comments!Ethan Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09789707517710110992noreply@blogger.com0
